Youths are leaders of tomorrow, we grew up chanting, chorusing and marched to tunes we never understood until we got to the future, only to realize that the old men are still singing a remix; a remix that the future belongs to the youth. Those this future not have an arrival date?
Nobody agrees on the delineation of what constitutes a youth. I will not get into this quagmire, so I choose to ask, who is feeding these youths that will take over leadership of tomorrow?
Are children involved in child abuse-child labour also part of the future leadership army of Nigeria?
My soul was broken and broke into tears, when I saw children of school age hawking pure-water in Abuja. It is not in any rundown section of Abuja but the link road between Wuse ii and Maitama. If you know Abuja well, this is one of the affluent parts of Abuja. It has an estate called European quarters.
Who buys these water from these children? Mind you, these children are in constant fear of being arrested by Abuja Environmental Protection Board, they run risk of being run down by cars.
What happened to the almajeriri schools? Where are all those Child-based NGOs? What is NLC and TUC saying about child labour and child abuse, in the face of this Buhari economic holocaust?
Can we have a nomadic school, situated at certain corner of major streets, where these children can receive 4 hours schooling and continue with their hustling?
I chose to adopt the above, because some of these children are equal bread winners with their parents in their homes. Some, their parents delayed salaries, when paid, is not enough to provide basic needs.
Obviously, the youths our leaders had in mind to be leaders of tomorrow, are their children schooling abroad and acquiring foreign drug culture and homosexuality among other vices.
When their children fail to come back with good moral leadership values, they perpetuate themselves in power, hence you have an above 70 years old man being a youth leader of a political party, an 82 years old man struggling to be an ambassadorial nominee and in a sector that requires young men with fluid waist to cultivate the farms, an old man presides!
